Helping Year 6s Take the Next Step with SWAN and Front Room

This summer, we’ve been busy teaming up with our good friends at South Weston Activity Network (SWAN) to run some special workshops at Broadoak Academy in Weston. We have had so much fun!

We designed three engaging sessions with SWAN for Year 6 students getting ready to make the big move up to Year 7. The idea was to help break the ice, get everyone mixing and chatting, and ease those first-day nerves. We brought together over 180 students across 3 workshops for a roster of drama games, fun performance exercises, and plenty of laughter.

We also wanted the young people to discover what SWAN has to offer, from creative groups and opportunities to free lunch clubs, and to see how creativity and community go hand in hand. Together, we explored different ways of telling stories: old tales they already knew and brand-new ones they invented on the spot.

It was a chance for these future Year 7s to bond, build confidence, and have a taste of what performing can be, plus a reminder that a career in the arts really is possible (we’re proof!).

Big thanks to SWAN for inviting us to be part of it. We loved every minute.
