SUMMARY:5Rhythms classes with Jon Ralls
DESCRIPTION:The 5Rhythms® is a simple\, powerful moving meditation that anyone – of any age\, size\, or physical ability – can practise. There are no steps to follow\, no choreography to learn\, no way to do it wrong. The only requirement is a body that is still breathing\, a heart that is still beating\, and mind that is still curious! \n  \nCreated by Gabrielle Roth and practiced by tens of thousands worldwide\, 5Rhythms is a philosophy\, perspective\, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor\, reaching across all languages\, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art\, art into awareness\, and awareness into action. Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced\, a community is born to dance\, to sweat\, to change\, to support\, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego’s hold and awaken the juicy\, unpredictable\, fascinating\, edge-walking\, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free. \nCreativity. Connection. Community. \n  \nJon has been dancing the 5Rhythms since 2008\, and completed the 2023/24 5Rhythms Waves Teacher Training programme. He currently holds weekly 5Rhythms Classes in Weston-super-Mare\, and covers classes in Bristol when other teachers are away.\nJon’s profile on 5rhythms.com: \nhttps://www.5rhythms.com/teachers/Jon+Ralls \n  \n“I am endlessly captivated by the depth\, subtlety and simplicity of our practice\, always returning — especially when our busy old heads go off on one — to the ground of our practice… feet and breath\, feet and breath…” – Jon Ralls\, Accredited 5Rhythms Teacher \n  \nCLASS DETAILS: \n  \nSunday mornings weekly\, 11:00am – 1:00pm (+café social) \n11am start – please arrive a little early to get ready and warm up (you will otherwise have to cross the ‘dance floor’ to deposit bags\, coats\, shoes!) \nTickets: \n£12/£10 booked online (by 9:00pm the night before) – see In-Rhythm website below for details and booking link; £15 drop-in (card/cash on the door) \nGuest teachers: \nIt’s great to dance with different teachers\, so we plan to have a guest approx. once a month – see In-Rhythm website (below) for details. \nWhat to do/bring/avoid: \nThis\, other details and booking links\, are on the In-Rhythm website here: \nhttps://in-rhythm.com/weston \n

SUMMARY:Once Upon a Story - Storytelling Workshop with Michael Loader
DESCRIPTION:Telling stories is such a natural way of being; we are storytelling beings ‘homo historias’. \n\nThis workshop will be taking that elemental urge to share and fascination to hear – ‘what happened next and what might happen if’ – with others in new\, renewed and engaging ways. \nThis will be an opportunity for you to observe\, identify\, practise and feel more confident with your skills in Storytelling\, both individually\, in pairs and with the group. We will use games and exercises to ‘get the juices flowing and wet your whistle’\, find flexibility and variety in the voice\, enjoy a sense of play\, feel more comfortable in ourselves\, activate curiosity and let our imaginations flow. \nBy the end of the day you will come away with two stories ready to perform\, new positive memories and hopefully a smile on your face! \n\nOutline of the day … \n\n– Warming up with games\n– Hear a traditional story told by Michael …\n– BYO (bring your own) Traditional Story of your choice (5-10 minutes long) and outline it to the group.\nWork on your story with the help of a partner and vice versa; before sharing it the group; getting feedback and re-shaping before a second sharing …\nAfter lunch …\n– Choose a story from our Story Bag of selected stories to work on in collaboration with a partner\, to include the use of percussion instruments as sound effects and the voice as another sonic layer …\n– Share your new story with the group …\n– Feedback and closing \n\nWhat have people said … \n\n”This was a great workshop. It is good to have the focus on fun\, but with a deeper aspect alongside. Michael was very motivating but also gentle and responsive to the groups’ abilities to participate at varying levels”Alzheimer’s Society”Michael allowed us space to interpret\, which was a bit unnerving at first but ultimately freeing”Folk House Bristol”I enjoyed Michael’s honesty and integrity. I liked his flexibility and by being relaxed\, enabled me to loosen up”WEA adult course \n\nMichael has been enjoying life as a storyteller for over twenty years\, and as a facilitator and theatre practitioner for more than he can remember.\nAs workshop leader he has facilitated drama and storytelling courses ‘home and abroad’ with Cortijo Romero in Spain\, Hello Project Romania\, the Festival of Fools theatre company\, Hawkwood College\, the NHS\, Forest Schools\, adult centres and the corporate world. Nearer to home on staff training days\, early years conferences\, play work and literacy gatherings and as keynote speaker with Somerset\, Bristol and North Somerset county councils. \n\nHis storytelling has found root in residencies with Natural England\, St George’s concert hall Bristol\, Bristol city council\, Read For Good charity in children’s hospitals\, the Brewhouse and BRI Children’s hospital. In the UK he has worked with many organisations including WOMAD\, National Archives\, Machynlleth Comedy Fest\, Cheltenham Literary Festival and Birmingham Symphony Hall; abroad with a British Council tour of Palestine and Israel. \n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 10:15AM\nFrom 10:30AM to 3:00PM

SUMMARY:Gato Negro
DESCRIPTION:Front Room is thrilled to welcome internationally reknowned puppetry artist\, Gabriela Céspedes\, on a rare opportunity to see her delightful Lambe Lambe puppetry show\, Gato Negro. \n\nIn an old theatre\, there is no performance today. \n\nIn the solitude of her dressing room\, an actress leaves everything tidy\, awaiting the moment of passage. \n\nIs it reality\, or a dream? \n\nBlack Cat\, by Gabriela Cespedes explores the moment of passage from life to death. That intimate and peculiar moment of the last breath\, when organic life ends. \nGabriela Céspedes is a multidisciplinary artist with over 35 years of experience as an actress\, puppeteer\, director\, cultural manager\, and educator. An international benchmark in Lambe Lambe Theatre\, she has toured across the Americas and Europe with emblematic works such as Gato Negro and Bladimir. \nShe has directed and participated in projects in Brazil and Paraguay\, and coordinated the first Diploma in Puppet and Object Theatre at The National University of the Chaco Austral. Among her honours\, the Javier Villafañe National Award for lifetime achievement stands out. \nTeatro de Lambe Lambe is a unique form of miniature puppet theatre that originated in Brazil in the late 1980s. It was created by the Brazilian artists Denise Di Santos and Ismine Lima\, who developed the form in Salvador\, Bahia. Performed inside a small and portable theatre\, each show is presented to one spectator at a time\, creating an intimate and immersive experience. Through carefully crafted puppets\, lighting\, sound\, and movement\, a complete theatrical world unfolds in just a few minutes. \nInspired by the tradition of street photographers known as lambe lambe\, the form invites audiences to pause\, look closely\, and enter a poetic moment of storytelling. Today\, Lambe Lambe Theatre is performed around the world and is celebrated for its inventiveness\, intimacy\, and ability to transform small spaces into powerful theatrical experiences. \n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 11:45AM\nFrom 12:00PM to 5:00PM

SUMMARY:Glitch - Four comedies from a world on the blink
DESCRIPTION:Glitch’: Four comedies from a world on the blink is a collection of short plays and excerpts\, written by early-career playwrights from the South-West of England\, where comedy\, chaos and culture collide on stage. These stories crack open the systems we live in and laugh at the very structures that shape us.\nThe four scripts featured are:\nThe Bus Stop by Patrick Large\nIt is mid-morning at a bus stop\, and two young men in their twenties from very different backgrounds find themselves sitting next to each other: one with a trust fund haircut\, and one with a love for winding up the poshos. Will they connect? Will they debate? No chance.\nGod Is Dead by Joe Brooks\nGod is dead\, washed up on the beach at Weston-super-Mare. It soon becomes clear that this is murder: murder most metaphysical. Detective Inspector Taylor and PC Blake are drawing up the list of suspects. They come to their prime suspect\, but can they bring the fallen angel in for questioning?\nThe Authors by Jamillah Knowles\nAs Benja struggles to seduce a muse through alcohol and isolation\, their flatmates Dex and Rikki have different ideas about how they craft the narratives of their lives. Is art really pain? Does anyone care if the scripts on a foot fetishist’s subscription site are generated using AI?\nEnd of the World by Geraint Hughes\nA hilarious and thought-provoking Kubrick / Stoppard / Tarantino mash-up on our relationship with Artificial Intelligence. Are we all complicit in letting AI shape our cultural\, political\, and environmental landscape? Will we continue to let it displace human creativity and original thought\, or does the fight back start here? It’s a rollercoaster ride!\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 9:30PM

SUMMARY:Tom Bright - supported by local artist Tony NWI
DESCRIPTION:Front Room is thrilled to welcome – “The excellent Tom Bright” – Guy Garvey (BBC 6 Music) – to Weston-super-Mare. \nTom Bright is a relentlessly touring songwriter whose songs land with emotional weight and unvarnished honesty. 2025 saw him make his third television appearance on BBC One’s Sunday Morning Live\, serenade thousands at his fifth Glastonbury Festival\, and sell out shows across the UK and beyond. \nArmed with a guitar signed by Johnny Marr of The Smiths and John Squire of the Stone Roses\, Bright’s tireless graft has seen him hit iconic heights of the London Palladium\, Shepherd’s Bush Empire\, appear on BBC’s The One Show and Sky News\, and record countless live sessions and interviews for BBC Radio 2\, 5 Live\, Radio X and more. \nAlong the way\, he’s shared stages with The Libertines\, Mystery Jets\, Tom Grennan\, Reverend & The Makers\, Katherine Priddy\, Ed Harcourt and others. He has collaborated with The The\, earned continued support from tastemakers Guy Garvey and John Kennedy and spent two years on Spotify’s Most Beautiful Songs in the World playlist with ‘If I Met Your Shadow’. \nIn May\, Tom released Young Old Bloke\, a collection of early songs produced by Mick Jones (The Clash) and Dirty White. He has three previous albums in the world — all produced by Ed Harcourt. \nAway from the stage\, his story is just as remarkable: once the UK’s youngest pub landlord\, and a childhood marked by multiple life-saving surgeries.Tom is currently working on his fifth studio album\, with Blaine Harrison (Mystery Jets) handling production. \nTom will be supported by local artist\, Tony NWI. Tony NWI has been making music with his partner in Naked Without It\, Martin Kennedy\, for nearly 30 years. They have a large following in the Surrey area where they play their “urban folk” to appreciative audiences. Tony lives in Weston-super-Mare and is really excited to bring his upbeat acoustic songs to his hometown crowd. \n“One of the UK’s most moving songwriters… fantastic” – John Kennedy (Radio X)\n“Unique and exceptional talents of one of our finest emerging singer songwriters” – Louder Than War \nhttp://www.tombright.co.uk/\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 9:00PM

SUMMARY:Funeral Teeth
DESCRIPTION:“Fearless\, bawdy storytelling” ***** The Reviews Hub\nMaybe you’ve lost your marbles… Or maybe you’ve found the most transformative piece of theatre that you’ll see this year. Probably both. Nominated for a London Pub Theatres award in its debut run\, ‘funeral teeth’ promises a night of chaos.\nWhat and who are we allowed to grieve? And does that really matter?\n\nLoss is the only truly universal experience. Whether it’s coming to terms with the passing of a loved one\, tucking the first tooth you’ve lost under your pillow\, or realising that you have no idea where your wallet is after spending a blurry night boozing at the pub – we’ve all been there. What’s more\, we’re going to keep coming face to face with loss. Lose yourself (geddit?) in the latest piece by Succulent Theatre\, unpacking what loss looks like to them\, what it looks like to you\, and what it could look like for all of us.Death\, grief and loss can be scary to talk about\, but if we don’t – we just feel alone. And grief already makes you feel alone. It’s not all doom and gloom\, though. This feel-good tragicomedy will remind you that life is a celebration and every loss you experience is an opportunity for you to grow. Drugs\, sex\, love\, family and friendship are at the centre of this contemplative work which really puts the ‘fun’ in funeral. \nThe stories shared are painfully true\, often painfully funny\, and will hold a mirror up to your own experiences in a way that you might not expect. In their signature style\, Succulent dexterously guides you through their losses from cradle to grave. Come watch them pick at a brand new scab and see what comes oozing out. \nFollowing the success of their debut show ‘NASTY: ‘Big’ girls being gross\, mean and sexy’\, the Succulent girlies are back with another queer\, autobiographical\, confessional piece of theatre that’s gut-busting and gut-wrenching in equal measure. \n****. 5 – Pub Theatre Reviews \n“The company manage\, half-naked\, to both cover a plethora of social issues and drum up pride for femininity”\n“It’s not often that you feel like you’re making friends when watching theatre”\n“A sense of community and support”\n“Seamless. Natural. Powerful. Honest. Humble.”\n“So moving because it is so human”\n“It is relevant\, urgent and absorbing”\n“You know how some people want to run away with the circus? I want to run away with Succulent.” \n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 8:45PM

SUMMARY:Neil Haigh’s Comedy Masterclass Ruined By Stewart Wright
DESCRIPTION:Neil Haigh’s Comedy Masterclass Ruined By Stewart Wright is the brain child of… \nYes\, you guessed it\, Neil Haigh and Stewart Wright. As colleagues and collaborators over the last ten years\, playing and toying with an array of projects\, they are now excited to be harnessing their chemistry\, theatrical skills and comedy talents in this brand new show. \nDuring the beautifully awkward opening\, Stewart irreverently ambushes the “rules of the workshop” leaving Neil’s lecturer character floundering. The evening then flows seamlessly from a ‘Masterclass’ gone wrong\, into a mesmerisingly skilful piece of improvised theatre\, created fresh for every audience. \nThe show is already building a following after it’s ‘work in progress nights’\, and is now coming to Front Room. It hits the spot for a memorable night out with its hybrid of Whose Line Is It Anyway style impro\, comic character acting\, and off the cuff story telling. \nThe crackling combination of Neil Haigh’s experience with ground breaking improvised theatre company Cartoon De Salvo\, and Stewart’s thirty years as a British comic character actor\, are not to be missed. \nStewart is one of the most gifted and funniest improvisers I have ever worked with.  His natural ability to find truth and humour in every moment is a joy! Debbie Isitt\, BAFTA winning film director\n“You leave awestruck at the power of the imagination and feeling like you’ve just been to the best party in town” Dominic Cavendish TELEGRAPH (about Cartoon De Salvo)\n‘Stewart is a rare comic talent. He wins hearts and minds wherever he performs\, has the rare skills to make audiences laugh and cry at will.’ Tom Morris\, Artistic Director\, Bristol Old Vic 2009-2022\n“Everything varies every night\, except good humour. Off the cuff\, but on the button!” Susannah Clapp OBSERVER (about Cartoon De Salvo) \nRunning time: 60 minutes   Age guidance 15+ \n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 8:30PM

Nigel is the one who got away and he lives to spin a bloody good yarn. \n“Quixotic\, surprising\, and packed with personality\, it is a paean to growing old disgracefully by a better maintained version of Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones.” (Review Hub) \n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 9:00PM

SUMMARY:Lilith: The Other Side of the Story - Storytelling with Katy Cawkwell
DESCRIPTION:Before Eve\, there was Lilith… \nAn uplifting one-woman storytelling show. An exploration and celebration of female power through the mythological character of Lilith. Shocking\, seductive and entertaining. \nLilith\, the first wife of Adam\, was not prepared to lie down and accept what was given to her. Thrown out of Eden\, she slithered back in to take her revenge and wake Eve up to what her body could do. Viewed as a demon\, worshipped as a goddess\, adored as the Queen of Sheba\, Lilith slips out of the Bible\, reclaims the narrative and is dancing with us still\, forever free. \nKaty Cawkwell\, a performance storyteller at the top of her game\, mixes myth from Arabia\, Ethiopia\, Mesopotamia and Jewish tradition\, with a dash of feminist flavouring and a large dollop of her own wild dreaming.\n“Compelling and gripping” Everything Theatre\nAudience feedback: “Totally captivating.”   “I was spellbound.”   “Brave\, fun and brilliantly told.”   “Staggeringly good.” “Great interweaving of stories from different cultures and perspectives.” “Wow! What a rich\, wonderful evening of entertainment.” \nAge guidance: 16+ \n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 9:00PM
