SUMMARY:5Rhythms classes with Jon Ralls
DESCRIPTION:The 5Rhythms® is a simple\, powerful moving meditation that anyone – of any age\, size\, or physical ability – can practise. There are no steps to follow\, no choreography to learn\, no way to do it wrong. The only requirement is a body that is still breathing\, a heart that is still beating\, and mind that is still curious! \n  \nCreated by Gabrielle Roth and practiced by tens of thousands worldwide\, 5Rhythms is a philosophy\, perspective\, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor\, reaching across all languages\, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art\, art into awareness\, and awareness into action. Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced\, a community is born to dance\, to sweat\, to change\, to support\, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego’s hold and awaken the juicy\, unpredictable\, fascinating\, edge-walking\, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free. \nCreativity. Connection. Community. \n  \nJon has been dancing the 5Rhythms since 2008\, and completed the 2023/24 5Rhythms Waves Teacher Training programme. He currently holds weekly 5Rhythms Classes in Weston-super-Mare\, and covers classes in Bristol when other teachers are away.\nJon’s profile on 5rhythms.com: \nhttps://www.5rhythms.com/teachers/Jon+Ralls \n  \n“I am endlessly captivated by the depth\, subtlety and simplicity of our practice\, always returning — especially when our busy old heads go off on one — to the ground of our practice… feet and breath\, feet and breath…” – Jon Ralls\, Accredited 5Rhythms Teacher \n  \nCLASS DETAILS: \n  \nSunday mornings weekly\, 11:00am – 1:00pm (+café social) \n11am start – please arrive a little early to get ready and warm up (you will otherwise have to cross the ‘dance floor’ to deposit bags\, coats\, shoes!) \nTickets: \n£12/£10 booked online (by 9:00pm the night before) – see In-Rhythm website below for details and booking link; £15 drop-in (card/cash on the door) \nGuest teachers: \nIt’s great to dance with different teachers\, so we plan to have a guest approx. once a month – see In-Rhythm website (below) for details. \nWhat to do/bring/avoid: \nThis\, other details and booking links\, are on the In-Rhythm website here: \nhttps://in-rhythm.com/weston \n

SUMMARY:Bad Things
DESCRIPTION:A Bad Thing’s Show. A Dog’s Story. A Simon’s Mistake. \nFew creatures are so unknown\, yet strike so much confusion into the hearts of YOU. Join Bad Thing on a silly\, absurd journey through the unknown: Sing with the Giblets. Dip in the piccalilli. Discover what Simon says… and much\, much more. \nFrom local theatre company Bonnet Dog. Previous shows include ‘A Knight of Terror’\, ‘Making Plans for Hugo’\, and frequent makers of all things weird in ‘From the Mud Cabaret’. \n“The performances by Joe Brooks\, George Jacobs and Will Jones shine through the grim\, slime-covered world they have created for us. It’s their commitment to the characters and their performance\, their revelling in the ugliness […] they can’t hide just how much they are enjoying bringing it to life” – Theatrefest Review  . \n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 8:30PM

SUMMARY:The Lost Trades
DESCRIPTION:The Lost Trades are a Folk/Americana Trio\, based in the West Country\, with a cool Laurel Canyon vibe. With a sound that is reminiscent of the California folk scene of the late 60s/early 70s\, their three part harmonies have been described as “flawless”\, “spine tingling” and “magical”. \nAfter a global pandemic cut short their first tour after just a single sold out gig\, the band retreated to their songwriting rooms to work on their debut album\, “The Bird\, The Book & The Barrel”. The album was released in June 2021 and was well received\, spending 8 months in the Official UK Folk Albums Chart. The follow up\, “Petrichor” was released in March 2023\, and immediately followed suit\, entering the chart at #31. \nA live performance involves easy interchanging of instruments\, including guitar\, ukulele\, bass and percussion at different points. There’s always a fun intimacy to the show\, with the group engaging in comfortable repartee with each other and the audience like a group of old friends. \n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 9:00PM

SUMMARY:Pixiematosis
DESCRIPTION:Unhinged puppetry for adults and older children. \n\nFront Room is thrilled to welcome back The Object Project with their brilliant show\, Pixiematosis. Do not miss it this time around! \nEverything was perfect in the midnight garden. The flowers grew\, the fairies flew\, the grobbity grobbits danced a merry dance in the twinkly moonlight. \n\nThen one day\, without warning\, the deranged gardener from next door threw the shed door wide\, and the pixies of this nocturnal paradise realised\, far too late\, that they were being exploited for a distinctly sinister purpose. \nCome along\, be charmed\, be appalled; get swept up in a story of greed and the existential madness of it all. \nFeaturing sqwonky puppets\, odd-automata and a slew of charity-shop rejects\, ‘Pixiematosis’ is not unlike watching a lost episode of Bagpuss\, filmed by the Tales of the Unexpected crew… or witnessing Fingermouse being folded up and used to stop a pub table wobbling. \n“There is a lot of love in this show. Surprises; delightful and traumatic. Laughter and horror. I highly recommend it.” – Audience member\, Ashburton Arts Centre \n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 8:30PM

SUMMARY:Louis Brennan
DESCRIPTION:London-based Dubliner\, Louis Brennan\, is a singer-songwriter in the folk tradition. His folk however aren’t the field hands and travelling minstrels\nof yore\, but the repressed middle managers and ennui-ridden urbanites of late-stage capitalism. They populate tales of bad sex\, half-drunk\ncommutes and interpersonal claustrophobia delivered in Brennan’s cracked baritone\, at times embarrassingly intimate\, at times spuriously broad\, peppered with pitch-black humour. \nBrennan has supported award-winning artists such as Hannah White and Arborist\, forging a reputation on the roots music circuit as part of a loose collective of some of London’s finest songwriters and musicians\, selling out the iconic Wilton’s music hall as part of a songwriter’s circle and appearing at two sold out shows at London’s Jazz Cafe in tribute to the late\, great John Prine. \n‘A master storyteller with a voice like rolling thunder’ – GQ Magazine\n‘His ability to twist and turn a simple phrase can render the most innocent line into something utterly heartbreaking’ – Clash Magazine\n‘Someone capable of turning the bleak into beautiful and relatable’ –Gigwise\n‘His wry tales manage to make that which is moribund sound full of life’ – R2\n“There are moments in life when a song just stops you. From the very first second to the second it ends\, all you can do is listen\, caught under\nit’s spell. When it feels like the song fills the air around you\, and all you can do is breathe it in” – HOLLER \n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 9:00PM

SUMMARY:Theatre Making Approaches Workshop - Neil Haigh
DESCRIPTION:Join award winning theatre maker and actor Neil Haigh for this one-off workshop and explore how to create exciting\, dynamic & playful theatre using only ourselves and a few basic scene or story ideas. (Age 16+\, over 50’s welcome!) \n\nOver an intensive 4 hrs we will endeavour to cover:\nPlayful approaches to acting – (openness\, complicity\, theatre as ‘game’)Physical/non-psychological approaches to scenes – techniques for narrative\, generating new material & ‘character Imagery\, atmosphere & ‘heightened’ theatricality for narrative content – (non ‘text-led’ storytelling) Scene Creation – using some or all of these techniques from visual stimuli (group/ensemble devising work) This workshop is ideally suited for those with some prior acting and/or theatre making experience\, but you do NOT have to be a professional actor. You might be looking for theatre making techniques for your own work\, wishing to compliment existing studies\, or just keen to explore a new area in theatre…whatever the case – just bring yourself\, a sense of fun and a preparedness to try with no pressure to ‘succeed’ or ‘get it right’. \n\n* The first half (approx) of the workshop will focus on techniques and how to generate content\, and the second half on applying them to specific\, provided scenarios and visual stimuli\n* Whilst approaches to Acting make up a part of this workshop\, the emphasis is more on theatre making & how to generate and explore content and meaning\n*Some movement will form part of the workshop but there is no requirement to be ‘athletic’ and no upper age limit. I will happily work with whatever access requirements you may need\, so please do let us know in advance! \n\nAbout Neil:\nStudied Acting & Devising with John Wright (Trestle\, Told By An Idiot) and has since forged a career as an actor on stage and screen. SUMMARY:Angry Boater aka Joel Sanders (Channel 4's Narrow Escapes)
DESCRIPTION:In 2000\, Joel Sanders performed a run of shows in Las Vegas. \n26 years on\, he’s finally made it to Weston-Super-Mare. \n“Sharp\, funny and completely original” \nJoin the charismatic star of Channel 4’s ‘Narrow Escapes’ for his flagship show about dropping out of society to become a nomad on the UK’s waterways. \nCrisscrossing America\, trying to become the first British comedian to perform in all 50 states\, Joel spent a decade sharing the stage with his comedy heroes\, including the late Robin Williams. \nBut in 2008\, a show in Tennessee went horribly wrong and\, with 10 States remaining\, Joel’s American adventures came to an abrupt end. He returned to the UK\, bought a canal boat and started creating a show about it – ‘Angry Boater.’ \n18 years on\, approaching 60 years old\, he’s still floating around. \nJoel was recently discovered by Channel 4\, becoming an instant hit on the popular ‘Narrow Escapes’ series. The programme documented Joel’s adventures including\, in the Season 2 finale\, his narrowboat sea cruise in the middle of the night. \nWhether you’re a boater\, boat-curious or you can imagine nothing worse\, this is an evening of comedy & stories you’ll remember for years to come. As well as delving into the joys\, perils and madness of a life afloat with hypertension\, Joel also lifts the lid on several of his celebrity encounters (including an awkward towpath encounter with a disgraced Hollywood A-Lister). \nFrom a recent audience member…. \n“Joel Sanders\, aka Angry Boater\, is an absolute comedic gem! His razor-sharp wit\, masterful storytelling\, and brilliantly observational humour make for a night of non-stop laughter. Whether he’s sharing his unique experiences of life on the water or delving into the absurdities of everyday life\, Joel captivates his audience with an energy that’s both electric and effortlessly relatable. His ability to turn the most mundane moments into comedic gold is nothing short of genius. If you haven’t experienced Angry Boater live\, you’re seriously missing out on one of the funniest and most original acts around.” \n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNzoPb4SKxg\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dIXj0YThe4 \n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:00PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 10:00PM
